In today’s Colorado Daily, an article appeared that again exposes a clearly partisan group with a partisan agenda parading around as a do-gooder, non-profit outside the reach of partisan influence. The article stresses the importance of CU students affiliating with a political party to participate in the primary election. Instead of quoting the Democratic Party or even the Young Democrats, the reporter went to a NON-PARTISAN source, New Era.
…but Shad Marib of the non-partisan youth voting advocacy group New Era Colorado said many students who stuck around for the summer are aware of the CD-2 contest.“Hopefully the students who are here right now are paying attention, because we have three good candidates that need to be listened to,” said Marib on Monday.
Let’s break this down, shall we. New Era is established and holds itself out as a non-partisan entity. The important phrase here is “we have three good candidates.” “We” meaning a collective of New Era and its target of the students. “Three” meaning the three Democratic candidates for CD-2 and “good candidates,” a subjective term illustrating that these three are the better choices.
Put this all together and it appears that this non-partisan group actually affiliates more with the Democrats and their candidates than any other party. There is no mention of the GOP candidate in CD-2, Scott Starin. He apparently is not part of the collective “we” or the “three good candidates” crowd. Is there any other way to take this than an endorsement of the democrat party candidates? This indicates this group is clearly partisan and should be recognized that way.
Take another example of CU, this time at the Colorado Springs campus. If this so-called non-partisan group is truly committed to registering students, irregardless of party affiliation, then they are also working the Springs campus, right? Not so. Though some may say that “we” also have “three good candidates” down south, you’ll never see this kind of quote from Marib or New Era in CD-5. Let’s call a spade a spade and say this group is just another extension of the DEM party doing everything it can to elect democrats.
Isn’t there a way to punish or revoke these clearly partisan groups that achieve their non-profit status?
